Washing machine does not heat water, and does not display an error message
Issue
- The washing machine does not heat water and does not display any error message
- How to check if the washing machine is heating water?
Applies to:
- Washing machines
- Washer dryers
Resolution
If the washing machine does not heat up and does not display an error message, refer to the suggestions below for step-by-step instructions.
- Modern appliances wash at lower temperatures, and if the machine has replaced an older model, it may not heat to as high a temperature as the previous one.
- The final rinse is generally cold so clothes coming out of the machine at the end of the program will feel cold when removed from the washing machine. This is normal and not a malfunction.
- The electronics in the appliance should be able to register whether the heating element is defective, and will usually display an error message (error code E60 on the display, or 6 beeps- 6 flashes sequence).
If no error message is displayed, follow the instructions below to resolve the issue:
- Make sure that the appliance is not overloaded.
- Determine whether the selected cycle involves heating.
- Make sure that the drain filter is clean and unclogged.
- If the appliance is supplied with hard water, a water softener may be required.
- Run a maintenance wash at the highest temperature (Cotton programme, 90-95 degrees) without any clothing in the machine. If the door feels warm after 40-50 minutes, your washing machine is working normally and there is no problem with the heater.
